Welcome to Knoto (the “App”).
Knoto is a personal relationship memory tool designed with a local-first approach. No account or registration is required. The App does not use developer-operated servers and does not include advertising, cloud-based AI, third-party analytics, or third-party crash-reporting SDKs.
You may choose to record names, photos, contact details, birthdays, notes, impressions, events, and other information about people. This content is stored locally on your device unless you choose to create or export a backup.
The App does not require or create a user account and does not collect:
Knoto uses Apple's system photo picker. You choose which photos to provide, and the App receives only the items you explicitly select. It does not request broad access to your photo library. Selected photos are copied into the App's local data and may be included in backups as described below.
Your App data is stored on your device. Knoto does not upload it to servers operated by the Developer. Removing the App generally removes its local data, but it does not delete backup files you previously exported or backups stored in iCloud.
Knoto can create local backup snapshots. If you enable iCloud backup, snapshots are stored in the App's private iCloud container associated with your Apple Account. This is backup storage, not real-time synchronization between devices. The private container is normally not displayed as an ordinary folder in the Files app.
iCloud transmission and storage are provided by Apple and are subject to Apple's terms and privacy practices. The Developer does not operate or have access to your iCloud account or these backups.
You may also export a complete .knoto backup using the system share sheet. Once you save or share an
exported file, its storage and handling depend on the destination and are outside Knoto's control.
Please be aware that:
Knoto Pro may let you protect access to the App with an App passcode and use Face ID or Touch ID for authentication. Biometric authentication is performed by Apple's operating system. Knoto does not receive or store your face or fingerprint data.
App lock and the hidden-people feature reduce casual on-screen exposure. They do not encrypt the underlying App data or backups and are not designed to protect against technical examination of the device or backup files.
Event and birthday reminders use local notifications scheduled on your device. Knoto does not access your calendar. Widgets are generated from local App data. People marked as hidden are excluded from notifications and widgets.
If you choose an action such as calling, emailing, opening an address in a maps app, using another messaging app, or sharing a backup, information needed for that action may be passed to the selected system service or third-party app. Their own terms and privacy practices apply.
Knoto may offer a one-time Knoto Pro in-app purchase. Purchases and purchase restoration are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. The Developer does not receive your payment card details. Apple may process transaction and Apple Account information under its own terms and privacy policy.
The App does not include third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. Depending on your device analytics settings, Apple may process and provide the Developer with limited technical diagnostics, such as crash information. This is handled by Apple's system services and is subject to Apple's privacy practices.
Knoto is not specifically directed to children. Because the App does not create accounts or transmit App content to the Developer, the Developer does not knowingly collect children's personal information through the App.
If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to include so that we can respond. Please do not
send a .knoto backup or other sensitive relationship data unless we specifically ask for it and you are
comfortable doing so.
We may update this Privacy Policy if the App or its data-handling practices change. The latest version will show its effective date above.
